The Sail Loft in Southwold is a lovely spot for a family dinner after a day at the beach – both children and dogs are welcome, and yet it remains closer to a nice restaurant vibe than a country pub. It’s slightly out of the town towards the harbour, with a lovely double aspect view – nestled just behind the beautiful grassy sand dunes of the wilder end beach, with stunning views over the marshland to the other side.
Inside there’s a more casual side with communal high table where you can pull up a high stool anytime, and a more formal dining area with booked tables (recommended as it gets very busy during summer) on the other side. For more seating and a lovely spot to grab a drink, there’s also an outside area with big tables and booths if you’d rather be out in the sun!
The menu is better than pub food heading towards restaurant standard, always with some delicious seafood options, interesting starter options and elements borrowed from world cuisine. Our last dinner there was a very generous portion of lobster and crayfish risotto and a Moroccan lamb burger with some very tasty harissa houmous and dressed salad. Definitely recommend!
