In this glorious summer weather, we’ve been getting outside at any opportunity we get, and the area surrounding Firs Glamping is the perfect place to soak up some sun on a picturesque country walk. This one we’d like to recommend takes you to Eastbridge, a small village with a fantastic Adnams country pub – The Eel’s Foot Inn. It’s well known for miles around for it’s award-winning beer garden, fabulous food and drink and live music throughout the summer and has an interesting backstory too, playing a big part in local smuggling history! The garden is a real draw in summer, with 2 big adventure play sections for children and it’s very own pizza oven adding to their award-winning, locally sourced food and drink menu – even if you don’t fancy the walk, come and enjoy a summer tipple here whilst a live band plays in the sun!
Anyway, back to business…this is an accessible 3 mile walk to the beach and back, or you can turn it into a slightly longer circular walk of 5 miles and take in some of RSPB Minsmere and Dunwich heath as you go. Take a left out of the pub, and find the footpath sign on your left a few hundred metres down the road which will take you all the way to the coast, where The Sluice delivers the Minsmere River water into the sea. At this point you can either turn round and head back to the pub (as we did!) or carry on left along the beach for a round route. For details, use this walking route by The Suffolk Coast (bear in mind we’ve done it the opposite way to this), which gives some great info. There’s plenty to see along the way with friendly brown cows lining the fields along the footpath, rare Bitterns to be spotted as you walk alongside Minsmere reserve and red deer who enjoy the reed beds in this area.
Long live summer!
